Ball size is the question every parent gets wrong the first time. Rhythmic gymnastics balls come in three practical sizes, and choosing by the gymnast's hand — not age alone — makes catches and rolls dramatically easier.
15 cm — ages 3–9 (~300 g)
Small hands need the 15 cm ball: light enough for one-hand balances and small palms wrapping the ball for rolls. If the gymnast can't hold the ball in one hand palm-down, size down.
17 cm — the in-between (~350 g)
The 17 cm glitter ball suits gymnasts around 10–12 or smaller athletes moving up from 15 cm — the extra weight helps throws stabilize without straining the wrist.
18–19 cm — FIG competition size (~400 g+)
Juniors and seniors compete with an 18–19 cm ball of at least 400 g. The 19 cm metallic + glitter ball meets the standard with the high-shine finish judges see from across the carpet.
Finish: metallic vs glitter vs silicone
- Metallic PVC — the classic training choice, grippy and durable.
- Glitter — competition sparkle, slightly smoother surface.
- Silicone — premium feel and the best cold-hall grip.
Make it last
Heat is the enemy: never leave a ball in the car, and store it in an insulated ball cover in winter — cold PVC loses pressure and grip. Browse all sizes in the balls collection.
